I just do not see the point of markdown. I love new things too, but markdown to me seems like it came about because someone wasn't looking around. When I look at pretty much any ‘introduction to markdown’ the author praises it being a flat text file that can be edited with any text editor. But then they immediately tells you to download a wysiwyg editor to create markdown files. What’s the point then when every major OS already comes with a rich text editor that can read and write .rtf files!?! And can be created with a flat text editor. And can contain images. Even the original WordStar documents had a better markup language. Every linux distribution and MacOS comes with troff. “Oh but troff is too hard to learn.” What isn’t that’s worth learning! Markdown may be “easier” now because it’s so new. But we all know it’s going to get complicated as it grows in “features”. Then you’ll have another troff that’s not a troff without troff’s time proven, code reviewed history. So instead of reinventing the wheel just learn troff!
